By Eve Muthoni

Nairobi, Kenya | January 13, 2025 — Trade Catalyst Africa (TCA) announces the appointment of Gabriel Negatu as Interim Board Chair and the addition of Professor Dominic McVey MBE as a new Board Member. Mr Negatu succeeds Patrick Obath, who has concluded his tenure.

As a former Director General at the African Development Bank, Mr Negatu spent 18 years working among other things on crises, support for fragile states, and the AfDB’s capital allocation to countries and specific projects, particularly in the Eastern Africa region.

TCA will draw on Mr Negatu’s wide experience as it moves to deepen its role in attracting private capital to expand access to trade finance for small- and medium-sized enterprises and develop sustainable trade infrastructure across Africa.

The Board also welcomes Professor Dominic McVey MBE as a new Board Member. Professor McVey has built multinational enterprises and not-for-profit organisations across Africa in manufacturing, technology, cosmetics, and management consulting. As a Non-Executive Director of the Overseas Development Institute, Advisory Council member of the Coalition for Global Prosperity, and Chairman of Computer Aid International, he has been an advocate for equitable trade and sustainable investment into African economies. His relationships span African governments, Regional Economic Communities, global trade organisations and the private sector, connections that will strengthen TCA’s ability to scale its work across the continent.

TCA thanks Patrick Obath for his leadership as Board Chair. During his tenure, he steered the organisation through a critical period of funding transitions and laid a strong foundation for TCA’s growth across East Africa’s key trade corridors.
